Microsoft Displayed Modded Omnia HD at MIX10

We are sure you might have seen the Samsung Omnia HD lookalike running Windows Phone 7 at yesterday s MIX10 conference. A day later, Samsung has confirmed that the device was not made by them. In fact, the phone was actually a very professionally modded Omnia HD which is originally designed to run Symbian S60 v5.

Folks over at Techradar managed to grab a quick byte form senior Samsung officials who said that launch was from Microsoft, not Samsung, and that they used the i8910HD to demo Windows Phone 7. Samsung also said that it's not yet clear whether existing i8910HD users will be able to upgrade to Windows 7 as this demo was a one-off.

The use of the Omnia HD has set off speculations pointing towards the possible adoption of the phone to work on the Windows Phone 7 platform. Except for the 600Mhz processor and the lower resolution screen (which seems to be limited by S60v5 OS that doesn't support higher resolutions than 320x640), the Omnia HD does match the specs required for running WP7S. Still, it is unlikely that the current Omnia HD users will get such a radical OS update. The unofficial modders out there might have already started their work by now, we believe.

New HTC Incredible Photos Leaked

Remember the HTC Incredible? The supposedly soon to arrive, Android based handset that is yet to make its arrival? Well. It has appeared again in quite a few spy shots with a Verizon logo (at the bottom right of the first image) and some interesting information regarding the specs.

What we know now, after this latest leak is that the Incredible is largely the same size as the Nexus One. It has a better camera (8 megapixels) and comes with 512MB of RAM. It was earlier thought to be laden with a 5 megapixel camera. The 1Ghz Snapdragon processor has been down clocked to 768MHz for some strange reason.

The images of the phone show it with the Verizon logo on it although Verizon has not indicated that it is launching this phone. It will come loaded with Android 2.1 as well as the Sense UI which is expected to be "blazing fast" on this phone.

As of now, the Incredible is expected to be announced by April or May. We have no inkling regarding the piece but this should cost you about the same as a Nexus One.. maybe slightly lesser. We're still wondering what is so incredible about this phone. Maybe HTC will have something to reveal at the time of announcement of this one! Till then, we wait.

Samsung S Life to be Unveiled at CTIA 2010

At the upcoming Cellular Telephone Industries Association (CTIA) conference scheduled for March 23, Samsung willreveal to the world what it calls the S Life. It would have been great if we actually knew what this S Life is all about. Sadly, apart from the invite for this launch, Samsung has kept this one a tight secret.

However, there are speculations already. Some point that S Life is nothing but "Samsung Life" and that it could have something to do with Samsung's recent tie-up (pdf) with Opera Software. The invite for the event goes like this:"Enrichment through technology, simplicity through innovation, "S Life" is as much a feeling as it is an incredible achievement" That incredible part has left us wondering if Samsung is up to something revolutionary here.

Any smart guesses as to what this could be? You have 10 days to guess.

Sony PlayStation Move can Support 4 Players

Sony has confirmed that the recently unveiled PlayStation Move game controller can support up to four players with full configuration on PlayStation 3 console, as reported by Gizmodo That means four Move controllers can be connected or two pairs of Move controller with Subcontroller can be connected to PS3. This means four players can enjoy the Move controller based or supporting titles at the same time.

Unveiled at the Game Developers Conference 2010, the new PlayStation Move controller comes with two high-precision motion sensors that detect movement. The controller also has 3-axis gyroscope and 3-axis accelerometer for precise detection of the controller movement. Both Move controller and Subcontroller use Bluetooth interface to connect. The PS3 console can support only seven Bluetooth connections and hence four pairs of Move+Subcontroller cannot be used.

Sony clarified:
Four PlayStation Move controllers can connect to a PS3 at one time (or two PlayStation Move Controllers and 2 PlayStation Move sub-controllers).

A recent patent filing with FCC showed that Sony has been testing power emissions, radiation emissions and peak output levels for Bluetooth (2.0 with EDR) and WLAN (802.11 b/g) modules.

It's quite a possibility that new PS3 consoles with further enhanced Bluetooth feature are in making so that more Move controllers can be supported simultaneously. Or, these could be limited edition bundles. No concrete information is available on this as of now.

Bad Company 2 DLC vs Modern Warfare 2 DLC

Recently, Infinity Ward promised to bring new Downloadable Content pack for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 through a viral campaign - 'mapathy'. In response, its "so-called" rival DICE Studios mocked this promotional campaign and disclosed details about two downloadable map packs for Battlefields: Bad Company 2.

Infinity Ward's mapathy campaign for Modern Warfare 2's DLC named "Stimulus Package" is said to contain 10 new maps. However, there's no official confirmation on it. This DLC would be available first for Xbox 360 on March 30 while PC and PS3 owners will receive the same later. Recently, Activision announced that the dedicated MW2 for PC servers would be pulled out and used for Infinity Ward Net infrastructure. This will be done mainly to support multiplayer matches. This has disappointed many MW2 players and hence, quite a few of them have moved to play the recently released Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

At the official Battlefield: BC2 blog, DICE has slammed Activision's 'Mapathy' campaign and announced that Battlefield: Bad Company 2 DLC pack would be available for free. This new DLC unlocks Arica Harbor Conquest Mode and Laguna Presa Rush Mode as two separate maps with respective game modes. Both maps would be available for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 game copy holders who downloaded the VIP codes.

What about PC? KM Troedsson, executive producer for DICE's Battlefield franchise, posted through his Twitter account- The PC players doesn't get a VIP code since it's not needed, they will all get these VIP packages through client updates.

Both studios look forward to the release DLC for respective games on the same date - March 30. So, which DLC pack would go for and why? Leave us a comment and let us know.

AMD Plans Fusion Chip for Netbooks, Ultraportables

AMD is planning to bring new Ontario processor from Fusion CPU-GPU chips hybrid family for the ever-growing segment of netbooks and ultraportables. Just like the current Intel Pineview N450 processor, AMD's Ontario chip will have CPU and Integrated graphics on the same die. Apparently, AMD will introduced Ontario only next year as per the previously shared roadmap.

AMD currently has the Yukon platform featuring Athlon Neo processor for the ultra-thin notebooks. The upcoming Ontario APU (accelerated processing unit) would be manufactured using 32nm fabrication process and will be slotted under the CPU-GPU hybrid family brand - Fusion. The Ontario APU will also incorporate support for DDR3 memory and DirectX 11 APIs. Speaking plainly, all the current PC games would be playable on the netbook with Ontario APU.

However, the Ontario Fusion chip with DDR3 memory and DirectX 11 support will raise two major concerns - battery consumption and thermal profile. Since AMD's processors have been known for heating issues, we hope that appropriate cooling solutions are implemented by netbook makers when these chips are used.
