We have been coming across leaked images of the upcoming Motorola Droid 2, also known as the Droid Xtreme with so much regularity that now, it hasn't remained a novelty at all. We have seen the phone from every conceivable angle and it's only the correct specs that have eluded us so far. That too, however, was until now.
Folks over at Droid-Life have managed to pull together some specs of the upcoming Droid 2 and we hear that the phone will sport a 3.7-inch screen, will run Android 2.1 with MotoBlur (whether you like it or not). The processor would be an OMAP 750Mhz one. The phone gets 8GB of internal storage with memory expansion support. A 5 megapixel camera rests at its rear. The phone will also feature HD video recording as we had reported earlier.
A video of the phone too has been leaked and from what we concur, this new Droid isn't THAT different from the existing one. Bet Motorola users expected more when they heard that an update to the Droid is on the anvil. Sigh.
Just a few days after the launch of the Xperia X10 Mini here in India, Sony Ericsson has launched the Vivaz Pro in the country. The phone, visually similar to the existing Vivaz, features a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and a 5 megapixel camera. The Vivaz, on the other hand, comes sans the QWERTY keyboard but packs in a better 8 megapixel camera.
Like the Vivaz, the Pro has a 3.2-inch resistive touchscreen capable of 640 x 360 resolution. The phone runs Symbian S60 Version 5. It also features a 3.5 mm audio jack and comes with 75MB of internal memory. Of course, you can add microSD cards and increase the storage capacity. The phone is Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g compatible with DLNA support as well.
While the camera has been downgraded to 5 megapixel, the HD video recording capability of the Vivaz is retained on the Vivaz Pro as well. The phone features a 1200Mah battery and will be available in two color options in India, white and black. The phone is priced at Rs. 24,500 and is now on sale across the country.
It was just yesterday that an image of a document showing Nokia's upcoming line-up of handsets was leaked. The document, apart from revealing the name of an entire new S-Series of handsets, also revealed the names of a few unreleased handsets from Nokia's existing series of phones.
Just a day later, we have images of what is said to be Nokia's next C-Series phone, the C7. Thought to be the C7-00, this phone is quite unlike the normal Nokia phones and features more of a Samsung-ish design with rounded edges and the design of the buttons. While the authenticity of the leaked image is yet to be confirmed, let us reveal to you the specs of this leaked device.
The phone you see in the image has a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen, runs Symbian^3 and boasts of an 8 megapixel camera with dual LED flash and support for face detection. It is also rumoured to support multi touch gestures.
From what is seems, there is quite a bit of time left for this one to be announced officially. In all probability, the C7 would only land in stores after the N8 does later this year.
Motorola seems to be on a mission to introduce spruced up versions of its older handsets these days. If it was the Droid a few days ago, it's now turn of another handset that is set to receive the update treatment.
We are talking about the Motorola's Milestone which now gets an upgraded camera and an updated Android OS version. Apart from these updates, the phone will also feature a Xenon flash - making the XT720 the first Android device to sport one.
There have been some design changes with the slide-out QWERTY keypad on the handset slimmed down to just 10.9mm. The phone will feature a 3.7-inch capacitive touchscreen with multi-touch capabilities and a 480 x 854 pixel resolution, 3G, Wi-Fi with DLNA, GPS with A-GPS , Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP,8MP camera with Xenon flash, face/smile detection, Geo-tagging and 720p video recording. The phone will also have FM radio, a 3.5mm audio jack and an HDMI port.
The phone is expected to be released in Europe soon. Pricing details are yet to be revealed - however, it is expected to hover at around the 450 pounds mark, making it quite an expensive phone.
With 3G services set to start in India in the next few months, the demand for affordable 3G enabled handsets is set to rise.
Samsung seems to understand that and for the same reason, has launched its latest 3G enabled phone in India under its Star brand. The latest model, called the S5603, comes with a 2.8 inch QVGA LCD touchscreen supporting 262K colors. It also features a 3.2 megapixel camera and boasts of a power LED flash as well at the rear. It also has a front camera for video calling purposes. With 80MB of internal memory that can be expanded using microSD cards, you would never fall short of memory.
The phone also features FM Radio, mobile blogging and has a music player Li-Ion 1000 mAh battery which supports up to 3 hours of talk time. It has been priced at Rs.10,000 and is now available across the country. Looking for a decently spec-ed mid-range, 3G enabled handset? Well you might just have met your match!
A security breach at AT&T's official website has lead to the exposure of about 114,067 email IDs of iPad 3G users. Goatse Security sent the information about the exposed email addresses to Gawker Media. U.S.'s Federal Bureau of Investigation has already started an investigation into this, reported The Wall Street Journal.
Small group of individuals claiming to be a part of Goatse Security exploited the security flaw with a PHP script that pulled email IDs of iPad 3G users. These folks used script to get email addresses associated with Apple iPad's ICC IDs that are used to identify SIM cards that associate mobile device with a specific subscriber. AT&T confirmed the breach and sent out the below statement:
"AT&T was informed by a business customer on Monday of the potential exposure of their iPad ICC IDS. The only information that can be derived from the ICC IDS is the e-mail address attached to that device.
This issue was escalated to the highest levels of the company and was corrected by Tuesday; and we have essentially turned off the feature that provided the e-mail addresses.
The person or group who discovered this gap did not contact AT&T.
We are continuing to investigate and will inform all customers whose e-mail addresses and ICC IDS may have been obtained.
We take customer privacy very seriously and while we have fixed this problem, we apologize to our customers who were impacted."
AT&T did close the security hole on next day but the damage was done. Over 110,000 user email IDs including those of high ranking officers, government officials and several customers were already pulled from the site. However, iPad owners with Wi-Fi only versions are safe.
This incident puts both Apple and AT&T to shame. "The FBI is aware of these possible computer intrusions and has opened an investigation," said FBI spokeswoman Katherine Schweit.
While FBI proceeds with the initial investigations, AT&T and Apple would really have to do some damage control. The ICC IDS and email IDs exposed can lead to repetitive nuisance to iPad 3G owners. Meanwhile, AT&T is already pulling up its socks to offer enough bandwidth and top quality services to its iPhone as well as iPad customers.
