Biz Stone, Twitter co-founder, noted at the official Twitter blog that the (footballs) fans have a unique opportunity to connect with players, teams, and brands using Twitter to join the matches in a new way. Twitter's new FIFA World Cup page is made from live widgets, Top Tweets, and real-time search put together on one page. The Top Tweets algorithm selects and retweets the most interesting tweets about the FIFA World Cup. Click on the View Match link to see the live stream of updates about the match between two countries.
Twitter's World Cup fever doesn't end here. When Twitter users tweet anything about FIFA World Cup and use #WorldCup hashtag anywhere in the text, then a Football icon appears next to it. This, however, is visible on Twitter Web interface only. Also, when you tweet using the first three initials of countries like - #BRA for Brazil, #ESP for Spain, #ENG for England, flags of the respective countries appear in the tweets.
The official hashtag of FIFA World cup is #worldcup. You can also follow @FIFAcomLIVE for real-time match updates.
