UAE bans Heavy Rain Game for Unknown Reasons
Quantic Dream's upcoming film noir themed game for PS3, Heavy Rain, has been banned by the United Arab Emirates' National Media Council (NMC) for unknown reasons. A Middle Eastern Gamers site reported that even though there are no specific reasons for this ban, 'a sultry seduction scene' in the game could have triggered it. Heavy Rain happens to be the second game that has been banned in UAE after Electronic Arts' Darksider. Following the MEGamers' report, Sony released following statement when Kotaku inquired about it:
The UAE's National Media Council (NMC) has banned Heavy Rain on PlayStation3. Heavy Rain has an 18+ PEGI rating and has been conceived from the earliest stages as a genuinely adult experience. This means that it deals with strong content including blood and nudity, but treats this content in a mature and sensitive manner. The game is not intentionally controversial or sensationalist, and all the themes and content are consistent with what consumers would expect to see in a mainstream Hollywood thriller.
