The Game Developers Conference 2010 at San Francisco is still going on as this round up comes in. However, this year we didn t see as much action. Sony unveiled its Motion Controller dubbed the PlayStation Move last week. A Couple of game demos too were shown where Move was used. Apart from all these, the much awaited Cloud-servers based Game on Demand Service OnLive finally got a date of launch. Much more happened at the gaming convention, mostly for developers in San Francisco
Here s a snapshot of the buzz in the gaming scene that drew our attention.
Sony s much awaited Motion Controller for PS3 is called the PlayStation Move yes, not Arc, and was shown at GDC 2010. The Move controller along with PlayStation Eye camera also brings a Subcontroller with Analog stick and direction buttons. A starter kit consisting of Move controller, Subcontroller, and Eye Camera would be available at price of $100. At the event, many games supporting Move controller were shown. Lately it was also confirmed that up to four Move controllers or two pairs of Move+Subcontroller can be used with PlayStation console.
GDC 2010: OnLive Game Service begins June 17
Steve Perlman and Mike McGarvey, the founders of OnLive have announced the subscription plans for the service for PCs and Macs - though only for the US. The service's date of availability with subscription plans for Europe region is yet to be announced. For US citizens, OnLive service would be available at $14.95 per month. Subscribers will get access to the vast library of popular games and at the launch Assassin's Creed II, Metro 2033 and Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands title would be available to users. The subscription fee is also inclusive of following OnLive-exclusive features: instant-play free game demos; multiplayer across PC, Mac and TV platforms; massive spectating; viewing of Brag Clips video capture and posting; and cloud-saving of games you've purchased - allowing you to pause, and instantly resume from anywhere, even on a different platform.
Indian Premier League T20 Fever is the official IPL Season 3 game brought by Indiagames on Facebook. All you need is a Facebook ID and then log in to start playing as your favorite IPL Team. Create teams with all professional IPL cricketers and also include your Facebook friends in your team as well. Besides that, you can also update the achievements, and scores to your Facebook account directly from the game. If you own an iPhone or iPod Touch then checkout the official IPL T20 Fever game from the Apple App Store.
Finally, video game developer and distributor Valve has announced that it will bring its game distribution service Steam and gaming engine Source to the Mac platform. Few of the existing Valve and Steam games like Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, Portal and the Half-life series would be available through Stream for Mac in April. The Steam Play feature will allow customers to play same games on both the platforms (Mac and PC) for free with the help of Steam Cloud. This means that if a game is purchased for PC then Steam Play with Steam Cloud will allow playing the same game from the same point on Mac system without purchasing it again.
The First person shooter game Portal 2 will soon be available for the Mac apart from Xbox 360 and PC platforms through Steam. Portal 2 is a sequel to the first Portal game that was released in 2007 as a part of the Orange Box compilation of Valve's games for Xbox 360 and PC. Portal is a physics-centric game in which player has to create two teleporting portal entrances to solve several puzzles.
Recently, Infinity Ward promised to bring new Downloadable Content pack for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 through a viral campaign - 'mapathy'. In response, its "so-called" rival DICE Studios mocked this promotional campaign and disclosed details about two downloadable map packs for Battlefields: Bad Company 2. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 DLC pack featuring Arica Harbor Conquest Mode and Laguna Presa Rush Mode as two separate maps with respective game modes.
Ubisoft's much awaited real-time strategy game R.U.S.E. will finally arrive on June 8, reported Big Download. Developed by Eugen Systems, this action-based World War II-centric real-time strategy game will be released for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The Public Beta of this game is already available from Steam, a games download service from Valve. R.U.S.E. was announced last year at the Game Developers Conference. R.U.S.E, which comes with a multi-player option, is a real-time war strategy game purely based on deception. Gamers get to choose their armies between six nations of WWII -U.S., UK, Germany, USSR, France and Italy. Steam users can directly get the beta from the service while rest of the gamers will have to download Steam application and make an account after registration. Players get to start off as any nation and train their squad against the game's Artificial Intelligence on the "Blitz" map first.
GDC 2010: Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 11 due on June 8
Electronic Arts Sports has announced new Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 11 golf game that will feature one of the most prestigious golf tournaments - The Ryder Cup. The all new Tiger Woods golf game is set to arrive for Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation 3 and iPhone platforms on June 8. For PlayStation 3, this game will support the upcoming PS3 Motion Controller while for Wii, it will support the MotionPlus technology. Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 11 will allow players to choose between the U.S. squad led by Tiger Woods and the European squad by Rory Illroy. Four-players can play alternative shots, fourballs and singles can be hit in the Ryder Cup mode. This game would be the first installment in the series to allow up to 24 players to compete head-to-head as members of a team. Also, these team members can chat with each other to devise the game strategy on the Xbox LIVE or PlayStation Network.
MTV Games and Reprise/Warner Bros Records said Green Day: Rock Band game will be launched on June 8 worldwide for Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 3. The upcoming Green Day: Rock Band game features 47 track album exportable library along with access to rare media vault of the band. Users get to step into the clothes of the punk rock band Green Day and start off the music journey. Over 100 collectible images can be unlocked by proceeding in the game as the Green Day band members - Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool. Besides all this, Peter Molyneux, CEO of Lionhead studios talked about upcoming game Fable III, confirmed Twitter support and also indirectly indicated Natal support. Other game announcement that caught our attention was the Eideos Montreal developed Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Rest of the GDC appeared bit dry and looks like everyone is saving up for E3 Expo in June.
