Get Instant Text Translation with Google Goggles

Google has released its Goggles application for Android platform based smartphones starting with the Nexus One. While you're travelling abroad, language difference is a major issue while checking out any written content. Thanks to new Google Goggles, users can now click a photo of the text and the application will automatically translate that text in English or other desired language.

Google Goggles is a computer vision software that allows smartphone to search (text/photo) based on the images taken. A year back, Google Goggles were unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona where the translation engine could translate only German text in English. Now, Google engineers have enhanced the engine that reads English, French, Italian, German and Spanish. Goggles can also translate into many languages.

Goggles v1.1 features better barcode recognition, artwork as well as logos recognition, and also search on the basis of images in the phone s photo gallery. Google team is aiming to extend the recognition capabilities of this application to Latin-based languages and eventually go to non-Latin languages like Chinese, Hindi and Arabic.

Google Goggles v1.1 is available for smartphones with Android 1.6 or higher. Lately, Google Goggles was reported to bring augmented reality to life.
