Marvell Triple Core Smartphone Processor Announced

Marvell Triple Core Smartphone Processor AnnouncedIf you thought dual core processors on mobile phones of tomorrow are the next big thing, be prepared to be surprised.

Marvell has announced the launch of a new mobile SoC (System on Chip) called the ARMADA 628. This processor boasts of three cores and is clocked at 1.5Ghz. The processor runs on ARM v7 infrastructure and a Cortex A9 MPCore. This kind of processing power makes the phone capable of playing back two simultaneous 1080p 3D video-streams. The ARMADA 628 is also said to be good for powering a device for up to 10 hours on a single charge - all while playing a high definition video. It also promises 140 hours of continuous music playback. The first two cores of the processor run in a "high performance" mode while the third core is "optimized for low-power operation and is clocked at only 624MHz."

Apart from this, it is also set to be one of the first smartphone platforms to support USB 3.0. Graphics too would be amazing on devices powered by this one, which is capable of rendering 200 million triangles a second. To put things in to perspective, Samsung's Hummingbird processor can churn out "only" 90 million triangles.

The ARMADA 628 is expected to be seen inside smartphones and tablets by next year.
