Just four days ago, Sony had released firmware 3.50 update for PlayStation 3 gaming console to bring 3D Blu-ray support along with other features. However, it turns out that this update disables third party USB adapters for the game console. Several disgruntled PS3 owners have posted about the disabled accessories at the Sony PlayStation forum boards. After pulling the plug on Other OS support, looks like Sony is out to disable all third party peripherals for PS3.
Sony has put up a consumer alert against counterfeit and unlicensed game controllers. In this alert, Sony stated, "SCEA does not support continued functionality of counterfeit or unlicensed controllers in system software updates and these devices may cease to function in the future because of system software updates. SCE and its affiliated companies disclaim all liability for any loss or damage suffered by you or any third party through the use of counterfeit or unlicensed products."
In this rebellion to outcast the counterfeit game controllers, Sony has disabled even some original game accessories like Guitar Hero Guitar and MadCatz Pads. Sony also stated, "SCE and its affiliated companies disclaim all liability for any loss or damage suffered by you or any third party through the use of counterfeit or unlicensed products."
So, in case your third party game controller has been disabled, you have no option but to throw it away and buy the original one.
