Jailbreak Devs to Patch Holes Apple Left Open

Jailbreak Devs to Patch Holes Apple Left OpenJust a few hours back, Apple released iOS software updates to patch PDF security hole for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. However, the company left out first generation iPhone and iPod touch devices. Jay Freeman, also known as Saurik, has announced that it has released an update for patching security hole through Cydia for these users. The iPhone Dev Team announced that the PDF Security patch would be released after appropriate testing.

After first iPad jailbreak developer Comex's jailbreakme.com website for jailbreak was launched, security researchers pointed out security holes in devices post jailbreak. The devices were vulnerable to any maliciously crafted PDF when viewed from mobile Safari web browser. However, jailbreak community pioneer Freeman worked out a patch which will be released after testing for first-gen iPhone and iPod touch.

Now we don't know how many iPhone owners would be disgruntled with Apple's surprising move to keep first generation iPhone and iPod touch devoid of security fixes. Was that an indirect indication that those devices won't be supported? We don't know it clearly. However, the jailbreak community has taken a commendable step to come out with a fix that will patch the holes for all the devices.

Look out for Cydia update (for jailbroken devices) in a couple of hours after Saurik releases the fix.
