World's Most Compact 3-inch Touchscreen

LG has taken the covers off its latest touchscreen phone, the GD510, which according to them, is the "most compact 3-inch full touchscreen phone ever made."

In the press release announcing the launch, LG claims that its research had shown that consumers were interested in having a device with the functionality of a full touchscreen phone, but without the extra bulk and unnecessary features. Additionally, these users also wished for a simpler device and were usually put off by the complexity of feature-laden phones. The LG GD510 was designed to include the key features these users craved, without the overhead of features they didn't use, says LG. So, is the LG really such an easy to use handset? Well, we'll figure that out when we have a hands on. But, for the meantime, we should be contented with the video of the phone at work.

While the GD510 might not be as feature packed as LG's other high-end touchscreen devices, it still packs in a punch with comprehensive multimedia support. With 8 GB of internal memory, the device provides plenty of room for storing large collections of movies and songs. There's a pretty usable 3-megapixel camera that is also capable of capturing videos as well. The 3-inch WQVGA almost completely encompasses the body of the device.

The only "aberration" is the single home button that doubles up as the receive/hang-up button. On the design front, a slim strip of light around the button shines either green or red to indicate the handset's function. The LG GD510 is crafted from brushed aluminum which gives it a high-end look. Interestingly, the GD510 comes sans the S-Class UI that LG forcibly used to thrust on all its touchscreen devices.

LG GD510 will be available beginning in mid-October in Europe, followed by other markets. Prices will vary country-to-country and will be announced separately in each market. You might want to take a look at the official product movie down there.
