Windows Mobile 6.5 Lands Tomorrow

After what seems to be eons since the announcement of Windows Mobile 6.1, it is time the arrival of Windows Mobile 6.5, the latest stop-gap Mobile OS from Microsoft. Windows Mobile 6.5 is set to take over from Windows Mobile 6.1 and is largely seen as an attempt to keep people interested in the OS till the next generation Windows Mobile 7 arrives.

While it might not be able to fend off the ever increasing threat from the likes of the iPhone and the Androids of the world, it is expected to keep dedicated Windows Mobile users interested in the platform and eventually upgrade to the completely new Windows Mobile 7 that will see the light of the day this year. There is also news about a small update to Windows Mobile 6.5 that will enable devices to be more finger friendly than it is when it is launched. That's right. We're talking about Windows Mobile 6.5.1.

As reported last week, along with the new OS, Microsoft is also launching its very own Mobile AppStore, the Windows Marketplace for mobile, where mobile users will be able to download applications. While most people do not expect something very revolutionary with Windows Mobile 6.5 apart from the spruced up interface, there have actually been improvements on many aspects of the OS including the browser which has been improved a lot - if we are to believe Microsoft.

Major Windows Mobile phone manufacturers Acer, HTC, LG Electronics, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Toshiba are expected to make their devices official tomorrow, coinciding with the launch of the OS.
