LG has announced the arrival of its latest Windows Mobile laden smartphone, the GM 730, in India. The phone boasting of a Qualcomm Mobile Station Modem7201A chipset, comes with the traditional S-Class 3D UI that runs atop the core Windows Mobile platform.
The main highlight of the handset is undoubtedly its S class UI that comes in a 3D cube layout, and supposedly makes the phone pretty easy to operate. The UI is integrated neatly to the core functionalities of the device. Email, for example, is easier to set up and use because the phone's schedule and contact lists are connected. This means users can send and receive messages using less key presses than on regular smartphones, making the process of sending an email quite slick.
As for the other standard features, there is a 5 megapixel camera, a feature packed MP3 player and numerous games make this phone a full-featured entertainment device. At just 11.9 mm thin, the phone happens to be quite pocketable as well. The GM 730 boasts of a 65k, 3.0-inch display and comes with 8GB of memory, expandable with add-on microSD cards. It also comes with Networking on the Map Service, a navigation-based social networking service, which enables users to see where their friends are while communicating in real time. Other standard features include seamless connectivity with Bluetooth, WiFi and AGPS. The device is 3G ready as well.
Along with the LG GM 730, LG will also announce the launch of its very own Application Store, which expands the capability of its smartphones. Currently, there are 1400+ apps available out of which more than 100 are available free of charge to LG handset users. The quick key on LG Smart Home Screen provides easy one touch access to LG Application Store.
The GM 730 will go on sale starting later this month and will be priced at around the Rs. 25,000 mark, making it a decent player in the highly competitive smartphones segment.
