PS3 Motion Controller Due in 2010

Sony has announced that the Motion Controller for PlayStation 3 will be available in the spring of 2010 at the Tokyo GameShow. Equipped with high-precision motion sensors, the Motion Controller combines with the PlayStation Eye camera for a new motion-dependent entertainment. At the moment, Motion Controller is a tentative name and Sony might change it later.

At the Electronics Entertainment Expo, Sony had showcased their Motion Controller. PlayStation 3 owners will have will have use PlayStation Eye camera along with the motion controller.

PlayStation Eye is capable of recognizing as well as tracking human face, voice and body motions to show the player's image on the TV screen. The Motion controller is equipped with two motion sensors, three axes gyroscope and three axes accelerometer to detect controller's angle and movement. In conjunction with PlayStation Eye camera, the motion controller can accurately track the position of the controller, detect movement of hand and the precise action is depicted in the corresponding game.

A sphere placed on the top of the controller changes color and illuminates patterns to give a visual feed back, just like the DualShock controller that gives shock effect. Also, the motion controller can perform the rumbling effect like DualShock controller. The motion controller will have Bluetooth 2.0 support and Lithium Ion rechargeable battery.

At the moment, Sony prefers to stay tightlipped about the price of Motion Controller for PS3. Let's wait for next spring (2010) when Sony comes up with a fancy name for Motion Controller.
