Palm was known for its association with Microsoft's Windows Mobile platform back in the early days of the smartphone wars. Along with Palms own OS, Windows Mobile based palm devices were well received by consumers in the early 2000s
As mentioned, this was during the early days of the smartphone wars where the likes of Symbian, Windows Mobile and Palm OS ruled the roost. As the decade draws to a close, things have changed significantly and with Microsoft still holding on to the generation old Windows Mobile, many of its erstwhile partners seem to be disillusioned with the platform and have either found alternatives (read: Android) or have developed their own competing platforms. Last week, if it was Sony Ericsson who hinted that it will be dropping Windows Mobile support, this week, it seems to be Palm's turn.
In a recent press call, Palm has more or less confirmed that you would not be seeing any Palm device with Windows Mobile in the near future. This is obviously due to its attention on Palms very own WebOS which is doing pretty well. For now, it seems that Palm wants all its resources to be directed at improving WebOS - currently doing duty on the Palm Pre and the recently announced Palm Pixie.
During the call, Palm also revealed that it managed to sell 8,23,000 phones during its first fiscal quarter. Hopefully, a GSM version of the Pre should make things better for Palm in the days to come.
