Recently, Palm had accidentally leaked webOS 1.2.0 update which was discovered by go4craig user of Precentral.net Forums. This accidental update leak gave a sneak preview of the major changes coming when Palm officially releases webOS 1.2.0 update. Better Copy-and-Paste, LED Notifications and Remote App Removal are few of the many features in future update.
User Craig was trying to restore his Pre phone to factory settings with webOS Doctor and the phone got updated to webOS 1.2.0 version. Precentral folks have discovered several new features of which, few major ones are changes in the browser that is expected to bring improved copy-paste function. Under the Edit Menu, new "Select All" option had appeared. Also, the browser would now allow saving images. Location services would be further tuned to give accurate location details tracking.
Also, the much requested LED notifications are on way as the text "The gesture area blinks when new notifications arrive" was found in the "securityconfig-scene.html". This option might be added to the Screen & Lock settings page (card) to activate on the gesture area for blinking on LED notifications whenever a new SMS, Messages, etc. are received.
Palm Pre users would be able to enter their account information in the App Catalog like credit card details which means that Palm is going the Apple way. Basically, Palm appears to be creating space for paid apps. The webOS 1.2.0 also brings power to Palm for remotely deleting an app from user's phone and user won't be able to do anything. However, the amount paid by the user would be refunded.
Palm has rolled back the necessary changes sensing the accident and hence it's advisable for Palm Pre users to avoid attempting any pranks with webOS Doctor to restore the phone.
Well, this clearly indicates that webOS software developers at Palm Labs are planning to make the Palm Pre smartphone stand head to head with other touchscreen smart phones. It's likely that Palm will roll out webOS 1.2.0 update soon or may be around the time when Apple releases iPhone OS 3.1 software update sometime this month.
