Samsung Star is Now Wi-Fi Enabled

The extremely popular Samsung Star series of handsets has received a major update recently when Samsungannounced the launch of its latest Star branded handset, the Star S5233w, with Wi-Fi.

While the previous version of the Star series were extremely popular, they did not have Wi-Fi built in. Now, with the announcement of the S5233w, Samsung seems to have "resolved" one of the long-standing demands of users. The addition of Wi-Fi might just boost the sales of the already popular handset. We wonder if the non-inclusion of Wi-Fi with the earlier edition of these phones was deliberate. The reason being that the "just launched" S5233w is exactly the samephone - with just the Wi-Fi chip added. Looks like Samsung is going the Nokia way and adding one feature as an "update" to an older device and giving it a new name!

Here are the specs of the S5233w. Nothing much to read here if you are familiar with the specs of the Samsung Star.

  • 3-inch touchscreen
  • (240 x 400 pixels, 262K colors)
  • EDGE/GPRS
  • Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth with A2DP, USB 2.0
  • microSD card support
  • 3.2 megapixel camera
  • MP3 player with DNSe
  • FM radio

As expected, the addition of Wi-Fi will make it slightly dearer and will pit the device against the likes of the recently launched 5530 XpressMusic. The Samsung Star S5233w is expected to retail around the Rs.12,000 mark.
