Thanks to production issues faced by Samsung, HTC seems to have ditched AMOLED screens in favor of SLCD screens which will adorn future HTC Desires and Nexus Ones.
In a press release, HTC confirmed this development - a move which was speculated to occur sooner or later - thanks to Samsung facing acute AMOLED screen shortage issues. This shortage was blamed for the delay in the launch of HTC Droid Incredible.
SLCD screens offer better power consumption compared to normal LCDs and are somewhat better than AMOLED displays in sunlight. According to HTC, "The SLCD display offers an exceptional natural balanced color, clear contrast, broad viewing angles and improved power efficiency."
The company adds, "HTC is experiencing high-demand for many of our phones, specifically our phones with 3.7 inch displays. The new SLCD display technology enables us to ramp up our production capabilities quickly to meet the high-demand."
Now, the question is whether these displays would better the older AMOLED ones on these phones. HTC, apparently, is confident and assures that SLCD displays provide consumers with a comparable visual experience to HTC's current 3.7 inch displays - that too with some additional benefits including battery performance.
