Samsung Launches First CDMA Android Phone in India

While Android phones have been around for the past year and a half in abundance, the majority of them were based on the dominant CDMA platform.

In India however, where CDMA has considerable foothold, it was surprising that there was not a single CDMA based Android device so far. That is, however, about to change because Samsung and Reliance Communications has announced first Android phone on the CDMA platform in India, the Galaxy i899. This is not a new phone and has been on sale in China since quite some time.

The i899 Galaxy has a 3.2-inch resistive touchscreen display capable of 320x480 pixel resolution. There is a 3.2MP camera with LED flash at the rear. The phone has an 800MHz processor doing the number crunching. Other features include support for GPS, Bluetooth and divX video formats. The phone comes with 230MB of internal memory expandable up to 32GB using microSD cards.

The phone is yet to be launched on the Reliance network and as of now, the pricing and availability details are not known. That said, it is heartening to note that CDMA consumers are getting more handsets to choose from as each day passes.
