Lenovo has announced its plans to introduce a tablet dubbed as LePad by the end of this year. Liu Jun, Senior VP and President of Lenovo's Consumer Business Group, has revealed that this tablet will run Android operating system. It seems after Asus, Lenovo is now trying to compete with Apple's iPad.
Earlier this year, Lenovo had started selling LePhone in China. It's not that Lenovo isn't aware how to make a tablet as we already saw Lenovo's IdeaPad U1 hybrid netbook at the CES 2010. This netbook had a slide out tablet screen and ran Windows 7 Starter usable over 11.6-inch display. It had Qualcomm's 1GHz Snapdragon and 512MB RAM inside it.
It's obvious that LePad will have similar specifications and will obviously sport the Android OS. Let's hope that the tablet is capable enough to compete against Apple's iPad and doesn't face any issues like HP's Hurricane faced initially.
As of now, it's unclear whether the LePad would be made available worldwide or just in China. We'll have to wait until we see the LePad by the end of this year.
