Exclusive chat with Shan Kadavil, Zynga India Head
If Zynga doesn't ring a bell, I am sure it will when I refer to them as the creators of FarmVille and Mafia Wars. Yes, thedevelopers of several Facebook blockbusters are about to set shop in India. They are looking to setup their first and largest base outside the US in Bengaluru (Bangalore).
AD: That's good to hear. Talking of your company, what was the thought behind taking social gaming route rather than the traditional 3D or as we like to call it 'Serious' gaming, which in itself, is a massive global industry.
SK: Serious gaming is limited to a select audience. We wanted to go beyond. Our company's mission is to connect the world through games; games that are not intimidating and easy for all. Also, the development cost and rollout time are lot lesser as compared to 3D games. So it made perfect business sense and it paid off.

Sony Cancels PSP Room Plans
Sony has cancelled its plans to launch social networking service dubbed Room for PlayStation Portable gaming console. Till date, Room was a closed beta and surprisingly, Sony dropped it off the shelf without giving any reasons. This social networking service allowed users to create avatars, personal spaces or blogs and share with other users. Last year, Sony had unveiled Room closed beta at the Tokya Game Show in 2009. This close beta service was available only to PSP owners in Japan since fall 2009. PSP Room was based on similar concept to that of PS3 based Home service. Sony, in a statement, mentioned that the user feedback was taken for the future network service on PSP and PS3.
That's all folks for this week. Hope you get enough time to finish off the games you've been playing and buy new ones. Have fun gaming weekend!
