Samsung has introduced highest capacity Spinpoint MP4 hard disk drive for laptops. New Samsung Spinpoint MP4 is 2.5-inch HDD offered in 250GB, 320GB, 500GB and 640GB capacities. With 7200 rotations per minute (RPM), this high-density drives also support Serial ATA 3.0 interface. However, Samsung hasn't released any price details for these new high-density drives for laptops.Several large capacity drives are available for laptops but all compromise on speed. New Spinpoint MP4 internal HDD for laptops is claimed to have improved 30 percent of performance with 7200RPM rotation speed over the 5400RPM speed. This HDD has 16MB memory buffer compared to 8MB available in several 5400RPM HDDs. This way, Samsung has packed a combo of fast spin speed platter and double than usual memory buffer for boosting the performance.
Targeted at the high-performance, multi-tasking enthusiasts and gamers, the new Spinpoint MP4 features Samsung's proprietary SilentSeek and NoiseGuard technologies for quieter operations. Unfortunately, you may not be able to buy this HDD for your laptop directly. Samsung is expected make initial shipments to key laptop makers in April 2010.
