Electronic Arts has announced a web-based free-to-play game for golf lovers - Tiger Woods PGA TOUR. EA Tiburon developed Tiger Woods Online game requires downloading a mere 3MB web player so that the game works inside your browser. No other installation, discs or other peripherals are required to play this game online. Featured courses are also offered a monthly subscription of $10 (Rs. 480 approx.) and yearly subscription of $60 (Rs. 2,880 approx.) for North Americans. Prices may differ for other countries. This online game also has Facebook integration so that you can interact with your Facebook friends, pass on your achievements or scores to the news feed and even create tournaments with buddies. Of course, the game is playable both on Mac and PC. It's a browser based game!

EA had announced Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 11 featuring prestigious Ryder Cup for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and iPhoneplatforms at the Game Developers Conference 2010 last month. The new online version for Tiger Woods PGA TOUR is like expanding the golf-game brand portfolio. However, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR Online site was launched last year but as closed and private beta.

The game is offered in three modes: Single Player, Multiplayer and Tournament mode. Furthermore, you can customize the appearance of your golfer, check out your game statistics, Swing Trainer and of course Course Mastery showing your course-wise track record. New features included since the beta phase are:

Pro Shop: Users can access Pro Shop for customizing their golfer's apparel, gear and clubs. They can purchase Pro Shop items with in-game currency earned through regular on-course play. Additional Pro Shop items can be redeemed with points that can be purchased using real-world money.

Group Tournaments: You can connect with golf buddies across the globe, and challenge them in customized, private Group Tournaments. These tournaments are customizable and group leaders are allowed to set personalized criteria for the tournaments - course selections and playing conditions.

Friend to Friend Messaging: Leveraging the growing social aspect of golf, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR Online allows players to connect with and message friends in the world's fastest-growing online golf community.

World Championship Courses: Two new courses will be released - Harbour Town Golf Links and Oakmont CC(R). Upon launch, the game will feature an initial roster of ten world-class golf courses including Torrey Pines GC, Pebble Beach Golf Links, TPC Sawgrass, Sheshan Golf & CC, St Andrews (Old Course), Wolf Creek GC, Wentworth (West Course), Bay Hill Club & Lodge, Oakmont CC and Harbour Town Golf Links. New courses will continue to be released in the future.
